Lounge
We purchased this lovely property in 2021 and work is ongoing to improve the rooms and facilities. This means that at times, some rooms might not be available, or will look a little different when you arrive.
Located on the first floor, the Dame Zara Room is our largest room. Boasting a King bed and comfortable seating area. The room features views both over bustling Bate Street and the valley. The separate spacious bathroom is found at the opposite end of the corridor.
Taking inspiration from the designer William Morris and the Arts and Crafts Movement, popular during the 1890s, Dame Zara features plush velvet furnishings and genuine Morris & Co linen bedding.
FUN FACT: This room is named after Dame Zara Bate, widow of Prime Minister Harold Holt, who married local politician Jeff Bate and lived in the Tilba District during the 1970s. Famous as a fashionista and socialite of her time, Dame Zara made a series of advertisements for Maxwell House coffee while living in Tilba.
Dame Zara can also be configured as a twin room so suits those traveling together who want to share a room, but not a bed.
Also on the first floor, the Valley View room is a snug and quiet room with exceptional views over the peaceful valley grazed by the Jersey cows from Tilba Dairy. This room includes a well proportioned ensuite bathroom.
Thought to once have been the Postmaster's office, the Valley View room style references the Victorian era of the buildings construction, with warm colours and textured cotton bedding. All contributing to a very cosy night's rest.
FUN FACT: The ensuite boasts one the the best 'Views from the Loo' in the district!
Located on the ground floor, the Postmaster Room occupies the original Post Office space. It features polished floorboards and includes a Queen bed, a seating area and small ensuite. The room has lovely views over the peaceful valley and also looks out onto the Tilba District War Memorial.
Light and bright, the Postmaster Room features Art Deco style furnishings and Egyptian Cotton bedding.
FUN FACT: The ensuite really is the size of a large telephone booth. It occupies the space of the original village 'Telephone Office' which can be seen in the photo of the Crapp and Boxsell General Store taken around 1900 by William Corkhill.
